Marcel Duchamp, Nude (Study), Sad Young Man in a Train, 1912. Harmony and Dissonance: Orphism in Paris, 1910–1930.
About the show:
In the early 1910s, the French poet Guillaume Apollinaire coined the term “Orphic Cubism” to describe a rising, less rigid Cubism that embraced color, movement, and musicality. This show aims to bring his perspective to life with work from Francis Picabia, Robert Delaunay, František Kupka, and Marcel Duchamp1. Closes March 9th.
Whether or not the show is successful at defining Orphism’s boundaries is up for debate (I found worthwhile criticism of the exhibit here).
