welcome
Exhibits in New York is a forthcoming iOS app that lets you keep a journal/write reviews on shows in the city. It’s currently in beta where subscribers of this letter can get an early version. You will also receive a regular emails with updates on what’s on view around town and reviews written by the our community (guidelines below).
about us
This project started late last year. I was newly working in restaurants, which meant I had not that much money but mornings usually free. I started wandering around museums & galleries, writing reviews in my notes app, thinking there should be somewhere independent and free of AI garbage to share them. You can reach me at sarah@exhibitsinnewyork.com.
Alexandra is an arts educator I met at the Guggenheim, where she works part-time (all opinions her own!). She edits this newsletter. You can reach her at alexandra@exhibitsinnewyork.com.
pitch us!
You can pitch us a short review (between 100-300 words) to run in this newsletter two ways: email pitches@exhibitsinnewyork.com, or, if you’re using the app, send a screenshot of your review to @pitches or on Instagram.
We’re looking for sensitive observations about a show; we want context (how the art is situated in the world) and affect (a gut response) to coexist. We’re hoping you can match your area of expertise (what you studied in school, what you know through experience) with the exhibit you choose to review, and a successful pitch will see ways to make observations beyond what’s written in the wall text. Selected submissions will go through an editorial review, run in our newsletter with credit, and you’ll be paid.
Instagram
Trying not to spend too much time over there but you can find me on Instagram. I’ll usually post closing dates to stories and any interesting art writing I find.
